Although hypnosis is not a new issue but due to the lack of any comprehensive jurisprudential study it is necessary to be the subject of scientific discussions on its entity and its due jurisprudential issues.
This article comparatively analyzes hypnosis in Imami Shi`i jurisprudence and proposes some course of action based on Shariah for its application.
Therefore, many aspects of hypnosis as being sorcery, harmful to human, soothsaying, relationship with jinn and spirits and snooping are scrutinized. The results of this study show that hypnosis without unreal inculcation is not identical with sorcery in any of its levels and due to its harms should be distinguished between conscious hypnosis and unconscious one and also between medical applications and not medical ones.
